Hakeem Nicks still plans on being ready for training camp
Quote:
When Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks broke a bone in his foot during OTAs in May, there wasn’t much clarity about his projected return date.
Nicks was talking lightning fast, Tom Coughlin was keeping his fingers crossed for the start of the regular season and others fell somewhere in the middle. Eventually, Nicks agreed to accept the Giants’ slower recovery timeline although some comments he made to WFNZ in Charlotte, via SportsRadioInterviews.com, make it clear that he hasn’t stopped focusing on the start of training camp for his result.
“Definitely making training camp. I started running about two weeks [ago] but the coaches don’t really want me to force the issue right now so I still haven’t started running yet. They want me to just take my time with it — they feel like that’s what’s best. So right now I’m just taking my time with it. … But I’ll definitely be ready for the season.”
Once your head stops spinning from the contradictory information — Are you running? If you are, does the team know you’re running? — there’s some good news in there for the Giants. Whether or not the Giants want him running, Nicks’ slip of the tongue reveals that he’s able to run and that’s a positive sign for his rehabilitation.
And it is also a big part of why there’s no reason to think Nicks won’t be opposite Victor Cruz when NBC televises the first game of the 2012 season on September 5.
