Hakeem Nicks lobbying to play in Giants preseason finale

Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has been back at practice for almost a week and he wants to test himself in the Giants’ preseason finale on Wednesday as a result.
Nicks has not played in the first three preseason games after breaking a bone in his foot this spring, but he’s been able to do everything in practice. Seeing how he responds to a game is a logical next step, other than the fact that the Giants aren’t expected to play anyone of value in Wednesday’s game against the Patriots because they’ll be playing a real game a week later against the Cowboys.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he’d make a call on Nicks’ status for Wednesday after Monday’s practice, but he didn’t sound like he needed to see too much more from Nicks before the regular season.
“He practiced pretty full speed,” Coughlin said on Sunday, via Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News. “He did a great job after the catch, turning and running. Those are the things we need to see, and see how he feels a little bit afterwards.”
Whether or not Nicks plays Wednesday, the key takeaway for the Giants is that his foot injury isn’t likely to limit him when the games start to mean something. That’s good news for the Giants’ chances of defending their title.
