From what I'm hearing over twitter the situation is this -
Owners proposed to extend the deal, waiting on the players. The union wants the NFL to prove it is serious about talking and thus wants to discuss somethings. All in all sounds good.

Manning, Brady, Brees will be lead plaintiffs if players sue NFL

Quote:
When NFL players sued the league in the early 1990s, leading to the free agency they have today, they chose one of the best and most respected players in football to lead the charge: Reggie White.

Nearly two decades later, the players have decided that if they decertify as a union and take the owners to court again, they’ll choose three of their best and most respected players to lead the charge: Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees.

According to multiple reports, the players’ side has decided that the three star quarterbacks with five Super Bowl rings among them should be the names attached to their lawsuit, if they decertify and go to court.

Choosing three well-known, well-liked, well-respected players to serve as the public faces of the players’ side is an obvious decision — even if choosing three well-paid players will make it tougher for this battle to shed the “millionaires vs. billionaires” label that the players don’t like.

That may be why Patriots guard Logan Mankins has also agreed to be named a plaintiff in the pending antitrust action if the union decertifies, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter: Mankins is an example of a player who, as a free agent with five years of experience, got the short end of the stick in 2010. Mankins’ agent recently called his treatment “a travesty.”

The last time the players got greedy and sued the owners, the NFL went downhill big time. I hate FA.

The deadline has been extended 24 hours, so no lockout as of yet.

I might have missed something I thought the owners had set up the TV deal to pay them with or without any games being played. They would have to pay the money back the next year. Is that the money they are talking about. If the owners something else set up I did not hear about that.

I have to say I come down on the side of the owners on a lot of these things. The last thing I want is for the NFL to become like baseball is.

I think the 24 hours is just to setup for a longer push back. I think after the owners lost the court case they came back with a plan that while the players are not willing to sign off on yet they at lest see something to work with.

I say it could be done in 24 but most likely you will see them push the deadline back a week or so and then it might get done then. There is still a chance the Union blows up and the players sues the NFL.

Same thing happened in 06 when they extended that deadline so you never know.

I'm happy with the extension. Hopefully they can sing a new CBA in the next days.

That would be awesome! Then they could make an album out of it after they sing the players safety rules, and the TV contracts, and the referree handbook, and the.......

Basically what I'm hearing is if something happens then it will be extended by about 10 days and give everybody more time to negotiate.
Hearing it is highly probable that they sign the extension, would be a surprise if they don't actually. It's just waiting on the owners to approve, the players have made their offer.
