NFL The Lockout

Instead of having many threads on every little word that comes from the CBA, lets just put all that info and discussion in this thread.

If you haven't heard already, the owners have been found guilty of negotiating in bad faith after they set aside that 4 billion dollars we've heard about. In a later ruling they are expected to pay damages to the players.

Thoughts?

I heard yesterday the deadline could be extended. To be honest they seem to be talking a lot and I feel quite optimistic.

What is this about them being found to have been negotiating in bad faith, and setting aside 4 billion? I haven't been following it much at all, since it disgusts me so much.

The owners set aside a 4 billion dollar fund from their TV contracts to prepare for a lockout. The judge ruled that doing that showed bad faith in their negotiations with the the players, basically saying that they were trying to hide the money from them and use it against them to get what they want. So now they'll have to pay some type of damages to the players for doing that.

Ah so they set it into a little fund to tide them over during a lockout, while the players had none basically? Pretty shady dealings.

Yeah and since the players & owners are partners and therefore share revenue that is where the bad faith comes from. Otherwise it would have been fine.

Are you sure they were "found" guilty and not just accused? Sounds like that went through very quickly... They've have to proove that the money was put there even before the negotiations started...

At any rate, everything in these matters simply rests on the owners and their willingness to work something out, unless the player come out with some insane requests... Which is kind of 50/50 in this one.

But if they were found to be in bad faith, even though they may have to pay damages, this will put the judges and arbitrators in the players favor simply because of this kind of bad dealings... Sounds like the owners screwed up a bit...

Well good for them then... Now they have to fight a weight that includes 4 billion dollars... Ouch!
