Bolts, Saints expect to get 2nd NFL game in London

NEW ORLEANS (AP)

The San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints expect to play each other in London this fall in the NFL's second regular-season game to be played outside of North America.

Both teams said the invitation should come from commissioner Roger Goodell during his Super Bowl address on Friday.

The Saints would lose a home game.

"We are very much aware that we are being considered for this unique and exciting opportunity to represent the league internationally and look forward to the decision of the commissioner this Friday," Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said Monday.

In a story posted on the Chargers' Web site, team president Dean Spanos said he was "cautiously optimistic" the Chargers will be picked. So optimistic, it seems, that the Chargers anticipate the London game will be played on Oct. 26, and that both teams would have byes the following week.

Spanos is a member of the NFL's International Committee. He said he and Goodell spoke about 2 1/2 months ago and again recently.

The game will pit New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees against his old team, and Saints running back Reggie Bush against his hometown team. Brees was allowed to leave the Chargers as a free agent following the 2005 season.

Last season, the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins played in London in the NFL's first regular-season game outside of North America. The Giants won 13-10.

Reggie Bush on mud, sounds like an injury waiting to happen. This is basically the worst case scenario for the Saints, playing on a cow pasture that degrades into a mud pit and slows down every aspect of the offense(and dear God slowing down the Saints defense is like taping a snail and playing it in slow-mo), but on a plus side, maybe we can get some cheerleader mud wrestling for the half time show.

This is just a sign of bad things to come. If they are able to make this game, not the Saints and Chargers but the London Game, big then we could see more and more of this. I have heard people talking about adding a game or even two to the season and if they do we could see more and more of them being played over seas not just in London but in other places. To take it one step too far it could lead to the Super Bowl being played out of the States.

I doubt they would take the superbowl overseas. They would make less money then they did here.

I really can't see them taking a SB overseas. That would piss off so many people they actually might lose fans...GASP... But you never know, everything else is going global so why not.

your feeling bad for the Saints? remember last year Wayne Huizenga wanted to be in that London game for one reason only $$$, the Saints will probably make more off this game than a normal home game. without a doubt the Dolphins probably made more off thier London game than they made the whole season playin in Miami lol
