Default Ducks to name starting QB on Saturday

With Jeremiah Masoli at Ole Miss, Oregon coach Chip Kelly has spent the offseason trying to decide who his quarterback will be for 2010. With the Ducks' season opener less than two weeks away, Kelly will choose either senior Nate Costa or redshirt sophomore Darron Thomas as the starter before this Saturday's practice.

"Saturday morning when we come out to practice (for) New Mexico, we'll know who our starting quarterback's going to be,'' Kelly said Monday. "It's been the same plan all along, I'm not being evasive."

Oregon's final scrimmage before the start of the season will be Thursday and Kelly's decision could likely ride on the performances of the two candidates. The second-year head coach has been tight-lipped about the decision and many believe the race is a dead heat.

Whomever Kelly chooses, they'll be stacked up against what is thought to be the best group of quarterbacks in the country. Stanford's Andrew Luck and Washington's Jake Locker could be first-round draft picks and USC's Matt Barkley started as a freshman for the Trojans in 2009.

THey better get it together, last two seasons barely gettin' by the Beavers then getting beat by BSU and losing to Stanford and Ohio St. in the Rose Bowl says very little to what is suppose to be a program parallel/compared to USC!
Oregon St. gets to play Boise St. this season and speaking of a PAC team on the up swing, the Beavers could possibly have a break out year! Their recruiting has improved tremendously! I love CFB!
