James Rodgers given the all-clear to return this weekend

Quote:
On Monday, we wrote that after 11 months, at least two surgeries and a multitude of uncertainty, James Rodgers is ready to take his talents back to a football field. Maybe.

To the delight of Beavers everywhere, that “maybe” has turned into a “definitely”.

In a release, Oregon State announced that the wide receiver will return to the active lineup this Saturday when OSU host UCLA in the Pac-12 opener for both teams. Provided there are no setbacks between now and Saturday, it would be Rodgers’ first game since suffering a severe knee injury while scoring a touchdown in a win against Arizona Oct. 9.

It’s unclear what role or even how much of a role Rodgers will have during this next phase of his comeback.

“It would be a very good positive feeling for our team emotionally to have James back,” head coach Mike Riley said. “He’s a captain. He has provided a ton of leadership and play-making for this team.”

Rodgers underwent two surgeries to repair the damage in the joint since suffering the injury, but was medically cleared to participate in summer camp on a limited basis early last month.
