Greg Schiano won’t talk Revis, says Bucs open to making a trade

Word out of New Jersey is that Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a torn ACL, which is good news for any team looking to acquire the corner in an expected trade that sends Revis Island to new waters.

The Buccaneers either comprise the list of teams looking to make a deal all by themselves or they are at the very top of it, but that doesn’t mean they are free to talk about the prospect of adding Revis to their defense. Tampering rules still apply, which is why Tampa coach Greg Schiano evaded talking about Revis on Monday while also making it clear that the Bucs are ready and willing to make a deal they feel improves their team.

“I hope you understand why I have to answer the way I do because that’s the rules and I certainly understand why you ask the question,” Schiano said, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “I mean, you have to ask the question. Generically I’ll answer to that, not in this situation, in that whenever we can get better, we’re going to do it. I don’t care if it’s midnight or…it doesn’t matter. If we have an opportunity to get better, we’re going to do it. That’s our philosophy period, covering all trades, all acquisitions, all things we can do as a team and as a program.”

The Jets have reportedly hit the pause button on trade talks with Tampa as the two sides try to come to an agreement on a deal that would send Revis to Tampa. Schiano spent a little time Monday talking up Eric Wright, but all indications remain that Revis is the apple of the team’s collective eye. If the play button on talks should get hit again, Schiano may be able to talk about Revis in the near future.

This either is just going to fizzle out cause the Jets are pricing him way too high, or this will happen on draft day
