Default Culpepper Visits Bucs

via profootball, through a radio station

Quote:
Our pal Steve Duemig of 620 WDAE in Tampa reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have snuck quarterback Daunte Culpepper in for a visit.

On the surface, the move makes no sense, given that the Bucs currently have 17.4 quarterbacks on the roster. But, in light of the reality that coach Jon Gruden is on the hot seat and must win in 2007, any potential upgrade is welcome.

And, at his best, Culpepper is better than anything the Bucs currently have.

I think he could be a good QB for Tampa. He could throw a nice horizontal pass.

not a rumor anymore

Bucs Beat | tampabay.com - St. Petersburg Times and tbt*

Jon Gruden never met a quarterback he didn't like.

The Bucs coach reportedly met Thursday with former Vikings and Dolphins free agent Daunte Culpepper.

The meeting, which was reported by 620-WDAE, took place at the corporate airplane hangar at Tampa International Airport. Also greeting Culpepper was Bucs general manager Bruce Allen and Doug Williams, the team's senior pro personnel assistant, according to the radio station.

Culpepper, who missed most of last season recovering from knee surgery, had his contract terminated Tuesday by the Dolphins.

The Bucs already have seven quarterbacks on the roster, a list that includes Jeff Garcia, Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Simms, Luke McCown and Jake Plummer.

Garcia already has been declared the starter for the 2007 season while Simms has struggled to regain his form since undergoing surgery to remove his spleen last Sept.

The Bucs have not confirmed the visit with Culpepper. Check back for further details as the story develops.

I think he could really help them next year. I say they should get rid of Chris Simms, and Jake Plummer, sign Daunte Culpepper and bench him for this year. After this year release the 99 year old Jeff Garcia and put in Culpepper if he is up to par.
