When Titans owner Bud Adams made the announcement on Wednesday that the organization was cutting ties with quarterback Vince Young, he made it clear that he was continuing his evaluation of the coaching staff and he did not give a ringing endorsement of head coach Jeff Fisher. "We have two critical decisions to make", Adams said, "the direction of the coaching staff and the future at the quarterback position. They are separate issues to me and will be dealt with separately.
Albert Breer of NFL.com reports that he has been told by multiple sources that Jeff Fisher will be retained but there will be major changes to the coaching staff. Fisher, who is traveling to Arizona to watch his son Trent play for Auburn in the BCS National Championship game, is pushing for a resolution with only one year left on his coaching contract.
It is believed by some observers that Adams is waiting to see if another team steps up with an offer of cash and/or players to obtain Fisher's services. Fisher would likely be a hot commodity for several of the coaching vacancies around the league if he were a free agent.
It is hard to watch a coach with 16 years tenure left twisting in the wind by the team's owner. Hopefully an announcement will be made soon.
