NFL sends letter to club using Chris Johnson’s image in uniform

John Glennon of the Tennessean noted on Wednesday that the “Aqua Lounge” in Orlando used a picture of Chris Johnson (and Mike Sims-Walker) in uniform to promote the big Dave & Dommer Mixtape release party on June 20.

The NFL has since sent a letter to the club’s promoters, and the ad has been changed.
“In general, companies not affiliated with the NFL or its clubs may not depict a player in his uniform,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said. “Our office annually sends dozens of letters to third-party companies advising them that they are infringing upon club trademarks and ask that they cease from using them in promotions or advertising.”
Ah, yes. But the league didn’t previously send those dozens of letters during a lockout when we had nothing else to write about.
