Default The Campaign Against Peyton Manning

Y'all may have heard, there is a huge push in Nashville by a bunch of fans to "bring Peyton home", back to Tennessee, where he played college ball. There are professionally done websites, professionally done songs, charities donations being taken up that is going towards the radio ads and billboards put up in Indy to beg Peyton back. Well, I am taking the opposite stance, and I really hope the Titans have no consideration to bring him in.

Peyton is coming off 3 or 4 neck surgeries and couldn't even walk laps during Colt practices until late October!!! The Colts placed him on IR in November because BY DOCTOR ORDERS HE WAS NOT ALLOWED TO EVEN PRACTICE HIS THROWING MOTION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR, LESS HE WOULD REQUIRE MORE SURGERY!!!

I get it, he is one of the top 10 QBs in NFL history. Trust me, I know. I see him up close and very personal AT LEAST twice a year, every year. Ok? So, do you recon the Colts know how good he is? The Colts know something else, too ... something none of us know: the extent of his injury and recovery. Him being so great, do you think the Colts would throw that talent away for Painter and a rookie (regardless of who that rookie is)? No, if they thought for 1 split second that Peyton was the same and was going to be that good for 2-3 more years, then they would sit Luck to further improve his craft by learning and practicing with the best, then starting in 1-2 years.

He is due $37.5 million this year, period. No incentives. $35.5 million strait money. Now, only 7.4 million will count toward the salary cap. However, do you think the owner is going to pay $28 million dollars from his pocket and the effects won't be felt? Hell no! There will be positions sacraficed. I'm not willing to mortgage the team for Manning.

Titans have a couple DBs, our FB and a couple Dlinemen going into free agency with $30 million dollars in the cap. If we leave Manning be, then we will have no problem resigning any guys we want back, and building a team to last. We get Manning, they will cut Hasselbeck and leave that $30million dollars open. Finnegan will be sent walking, Hall will be sent walking, Ball will be sent walking, Hope will be sent walking. Come on, let's use a little common sense, here!

It is also disrespectful and abusive to the players. You have a QB that just turned in a season better than any QB in the 50+ year history of the franchise, except Warren Moon. You have a QB on the bench that has an unseeable cieling that you promised would get the job in the next couple years. These guy take a team projected to 3-4 wins and pump out 9 wins with 1-possession losses to Jags, Saints, and Bengals and fell 1 play short of a playoff berth (Sanches's INT inside the redzone inside the 2 minute warning in Miami in Week 17). And they did it all without Chris Johnson or Kenny Britt, the 2 best players on the team. So, you reward these guys by paying an injured player in the final games of his career $35.5 million to come in and toss this talent to the curb? Why?

Manning's game is 100% timing. The reason his WRs and TEs are so good with him is because they basicly live together in the off-season practicing 4-8 hours a day running the same routes til they are able to call and execute plays blindfolded. By the team he reaches a new team, he will not have made an honest pass to an NFL reciever in over a calendar year!!! He will not ZERO timing with his new group of weapons. This is not a formula he can use for success!!!!

Now, here is a thought I did have. If the Colts cut Manning, we should definitely snatch him up! At that point, the $28 million dollar bonus is gone. We get him for 3-5 years for at an elite QB price. We trade Hasselbeck for a 3rd or 4th rounder. If Manning don't work out, Locker gets his shot. Seems like a deal, huh? Then, I snapped out of that nightmarish thinking with real thoughts!!!

Hasselbeck mentored Lockers for his last 3 years of college. He mentored him last season. They are best friends, hanging out and not talking football in non-football time. He has a report with him. He feels comfortable learning from him and Hasselbeck loves teaching him, they can take criticism from each other. I'm not sure he will have that relationship with an anal perfectionist like Manning.

On top of that, chew on this: Manning has NEVER had a backup QB do anything. You sit for years and years and years in practice and in film room and on the sidelines and talking with and learning from such an amazingly great QB, you should be golden. He's mentored you and molding you and taught you his secrets, you are golden. Well, none of them every do a damn thing!!!! Why is that? I think Manning is alot like Kerry Collins, who admits openly he isn't a mentor and won't mold QBs, because he wants their job and they want his. I think Manning doesn't help these backups. I think he would help Locker even less, because he is in a new place and feels unsecure and on top of that he knows the job is promised to Lockers and he will try to hang on as long as he can. I think Manning being there could actually HINDER Locker's progression and legnthen his learning curve.

We have a great starter, we have a great back-up, we have plenty of cap room ($30 million) to supplement the roster ... I think we are in too good of shape as a team with plenty of upside, we don't need to mortgage that with a wildcard that may not even finish the season. We need to run what we brung.

The more I read about it the more I think that Peyton will either play for the Colts if he's able to, or retire. I don't think he'll go to another team

If he is healthy and able, the Colts will keep him. If they aren't comfortable with him, he will either be a Redskin or a Viking. My dream situation is this:

Giants win the Super Bowl. Manning goes to the Giants and losing the QB competition in the off season to Eli. Baby brother already has a Super Bowl faster than you, now he has twice as much as you and you are his backup. hahahaha

Find it interesting that the Super Bowl this weekend and all that people can talk about is Eli? Yeah, Payton's not an attention whore at all... Trumped up BS to steal the spotlight... Probably the last time though.

This just in: Once Eli wins his second ring, about ten minutes later Peyton Manning will retire.
